One of the best deals out there. I bought this gun here, had it shipped to Canada and still saved just shy of $100 than if I had bought it locally (and that’s $280 for the CP8242, 550 ft.lb. I work next to a couple of guys who have a IR Thunder gun and a Blue Point AT555B and there’s nothing those guys can do that this can’t. Probably the best investment in my tool box right now.
LJB (verified owner) –
Powerful. I received this while I was still working on my truck using a Lowes brand impact wrench rated at 400lbs, it wouldn’t budge the control arm bolts, so I installed the connector added some oil and without changing the pressure gave it a whirl. It came off so easy I thought the bolt broke. This thing has taken off everything I’ve thrown at it, from rusted 14yr old motor mount bolts to bumper bolts. Definitely a good purchase and at this price it was a steal..

Very Good Gun For The Money. I use this gun for bolts in the construction business but I also wanted a gun that could be used to break bolts when changing rotors on my trucks. I could not break them with breaker bar even after Kroil and torch but this did it with no trouble at all. It’s a great gun for the money.
shopperNE (verified owner) –
ASE Certified Master Tech, I say buy it. Plenty of power. It replaced another CP I have had for 25 years or more that the anvil finally broke and wont hold the tools any more. I love it for the power it has, and also it is much quieter then the other CP or Snap-on models I use. Has every bit as much torque as my 1/2 Snap-on which is less then a year old. Maybe even more. Its not as light as I though it might be. The weight is not an issue or detractor in my opinion. For the Money, you cant beat it, not even with a higher priced off the truck brand. Mechanics will know what I mean. If I have a concern about this unit, it would have to be the phenolic selector mechanism. It might not hold up as well as the old style steel forward and backward slide button.
AppleTech (verified owner) –
Best tool purchase yet! Having an impact wrench has changed how I work on my cars. Everything goes so much quicker and it makes working on things like alternators or removing pinion nuts much easier. I chose this model after much research as I have heard nothing but positives about the brand and this one had a good torque rating for the cost.
Joseph N Kantor (verified owner) –
Pretty good gun. Price is great. Weight is much better than my last 1/2″ drive impact. Torque is incredible and it’s quiet. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the ergonomics. The bulge of the gun tends to rest on the top of my old arthritic thumb joint. In that respect, my old Matco had a much more comfortable grip to it but was much heavier.
Will (verified owner) –
Good gun. I really like the gun, plenty of power. I gave it 4 stars due to the knob that changes the direction of the gun does not alwaysturn easily.
HH Historical Restoration (verified owner) –
Works as it should; good price. No point in rating it really until I’ve used it for a couple of years and on some tough jobs. It’s lightweight; seems to work well. I have 2 other CPs – one 20+ years old; one almost 20. Controls are sticky but otherwise work well.
Joshua Hinds (verified owner) –
Zero Complaints! This gun is awesome, and I have yet to find a bolt it couldn’t remove easily, even with my undersized compressor with only 3.5 CFM. I wouldn’t consider myself a tool expert by any means, but the quality and fit and finish are very good, there are no air leaks, and it feels very well balanced at full tilt. After owning this, I will be buying more Chicago Pneumatic air tools in the future.
Jimmy (verified owner) –
One Tough Tool! Just bought a new cobalt 60gal compressor with a 10.5 CFM output, more than enough for this tool. This Impact is everything I was hoping for and then some! Has not let me down yet and used it on numerous vehicles already, and not to mention its pretty darn quiet for a 1/2 inch impact running at 8200 RPM. All I can say is you will not be disappointed! Unless you try to run it with a small compressor, the required CFM is a must for getting the most out of your air tools.
FJBFJBFJBFJB (verified owner) –
The one to rule them all. This is the BEST 1/2″ Impact I have ever owned. I have Had IIngersoll-Rand, Snap-On, Aircat and a few others. This one is by far the best. The cost is less and hits harder than anything I have. Don’t throw specs at me you Aircat fans because the proof is in the pudding. I think Aircat over rates there stats. The feel of the CP is very solid and fits well in the hand, I can not recommend this enough.
Michigan Reader (verified owner) –
Perfect for the DIY Dad! The kids and I gave this to my husband for Christmas and he can’t stop raving about it! He has used it many times for small building projects such as building a garden fence. Father’s Day is coming up……this would be received with much more enthusiasm than a tie!
Nunya Business (verified owner) –
Works Great. I bought this tool specifically to remove a stubborn, rusty axle nut that eventually caused my previous 550ft/lb impact wrench to malfunction. This tool did not care one bit about how stuck that nut was. I was very impressed.
I’m giving this tool 5-stars after only one use because it saved me the expense of taking it into a shop to have the hub replaced, and I have a good tool to use for other projects, so I am glad my money went to something I can use again. HIGHLY recommended item.
Endru Edwar (verified owner) –
Best impact gun ever! This is by far the best 1/2 inch impact gun out there. I have used snap-on, blue point, campbell hausfeld, ingersoll rand you name it and was dissapointed. Snap on is expensive and loud, blue point is also expensive but weak. IR is quite but still doesnt meet my expectation when it comes to torque figures and CH its cheap and loud actually not too bad for the price. But CP 7748 IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT! Quiet, not too heavy, compact, looks sexy, cheap and most of all its the most POWERFUL impact gun I’ve used. Im a mechanic by trade and been doing it for 10 years, see the boys and I always have comps about whos got the strongest gun in the workshop. The previous champion was a Sidchrome gun which smashes all the big names until my CP 7748 came in the mail. Centre Hub bolt on a VW jetta 2007 (rusty and nasty) thats when my gun defeated the sidchrome, none of these zap forward then backward crap, hold it in reverse for 3secs the bolt came right out! And ever since my impact gun is the reigning champion. I highly convinced anyone that needs a powerful gun at the right price think Chicago pneumatic 7748.
Michelle Rowe (verified owner) –
Great gun. First let me say I have been in the auto / light truck repair business for 25 plus years. Everyone in the business seems to compare power of air guns based on removing Honda crank bolts. And for good reason! I had ordered this gun along with a Ingersoll-Rand 231C 1/2-Inch Super-Duty Air Impact Wrench from Amazon after my old IR died on a Friday afternoon. I happened to get a Honda t-belt job in about two weeks later. I purposely removed the drive belts before trying to remove the crank bolt with the IR and struck out. Then took out this CP and it removed the bolt without even breaking a sweat.
I do not use this gun everyday. I find it heavy, cumbersome, and cant “feel” how tight it makes a bolt. But, when Im in a corner I now have what I feel is a great backup.
FOR NEW MECHANICS: Buy this along with the 231C mentioned above and you will be set. I recommend staying with the 231c for everyday use and this for the wont move stuff.
Tony Schmidt (verified owner) –
We use it on some pretty rusty equipment and hasn’t failed yet. Unit is made in Taiwan. Not the USA. Thought I was getting a USA product. Unit seems to perform well. We use it on some pretty rusty equipment and hasn’t failed yet.
Kevin (verified owner) –
Great product. This has been one of the best tool purchases I have ever made. It will take off/put on any bolt, even the ones i pulled off the old rusty farm truck. This gun has the power I need as a mechanic. This company in general has some great tools to offer. Not always the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. With some oil each day I’m certain this gun will last me longer than I need it to.
michael jesse zavella (verified owner) –
Working better than expected. Replaced a Cornwell cat400. This impact has more power than the cornwell and an ir 231. Very happy so far. Other techs have tried it and like it also. Good gun for the price.
mbna (verified owner) –
Industrial Quality. . . You get what you pay for.. You don’t get any better that Chicago Pneumatic products.
I used to use one of these on an assembly line. I tightened and loosened over 3000 bolts a day. Some as big as 1/2 inch and I mean a lot of them.
It got brutal abuse and survived. Other brands broke within weeks.
I don’t care that the price is more for a CP product. If you want the best, it’s worth every penny of it.
Industrial quality for sure and this one is very light to boot using modern materials. Too bad they shipped the assembly overseas. Taiwan is still better than _____ however.

Quiet, Powerful, Reliable. Bought this gun after the previous more expensive units gave us issues. We bought a 2235TiMax that when you put it under heavy torque it just rattles. We had it for about 6 months. Then a 2135TiMax that the retainer clip keeps coming off that holds the sockets on. I already replaced those three times. My dad always loved the CP guns and his favorite has been discontinued. So I found this one. It is quiet, powerful, and has a good feel to it. I like the way the controls for forward and reverse are set up and the torque. It does take some getting used to as it is powerful and quiet to make sure you don’t over do it. I will buy this again without hesitation.
Handyman (verified owner) –
but I’m happy with it so far. Only used twice, but I’m happy with it so far. my last CP impact was over 30 years old, and seem to be wore out. I am retired now, and only use at home shop a few times a year, and wanted something that WORKS when I need it, not hoping it is strong enough. I rotate my own tires(3 vehicles)
brakes, mowers (6 FT decks) ETC.
Tony Hernandez (verified owner) –
Would recommend to anyone looking for a impact wrench that can …. Awsome product. I work at discount tire and all of pur service bays have one of these and they are a beast. Easly loosens stiff lug nuts of 8 lug trucks with ease. Would recommend to anyone looking for a impact wrench that can stand up to lots of daily abuse. We use them 6 days a week all day. And they are able to stand up to the abuse

great, well balanced. great ,well balanced, and a lot quiter then my old cp,of 35 years,,,if this one lasts that long i will be impressed,,,happy with the impact so far

Good Deal. 6yrs of extreme use and the air inlet valve finally went bad, cost me $30 for parts. I’ve been a mechanic for 40yrs. My first 1/2 impact was CP 734 back in the ’70s. I’ve gone through several over the years. I like the way this one hits and feels. A little heavier than my IR Titanium, but seems to hit harder. I’m a little concerned how the selector switch is going to hold up. Seems to be well worth the money. If you turn wrenches for a living and looking for the most bang for the buck this is the impact for you.
It’s been over a year since I bought this gun, I love it. Can’t recommend it enough. Follow up: Been 4yrs since I purchased this CP, best damn impact I’ve ever owned. If you mechanic for a living and you’re in the market for an impact, this is it. Fantastic. Followup: Going on 6yrs now and still the best impact I’ve ever owned, what a work horse
David King (verified owner) –
Simply the best. From a tyre garage owner nothing comes close. Last gun lasted 4 years of punishment of relentless use. Not dead yet, but slowing down. That’s why I only use CP. and bought again.
James Barker (verified owner) –
Quality impact gun for a good price. Excellent impact wrench. Relatively light. The black finish is not very durable and is scratched easily from being used daily and set on the ground occasionally. Comfortable to hold in my average sized hands. Great trigger control to feather power in both forward and reverse. The friction ring on the anvil holds sockets very firmly. The gun is not very quiet but also not overly loud, about average volume for this kind of tool. Switching directions can be tricky single handed but can be done by reaching with your thumb.
Overall I’m very happy with this impact and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable but powerful gun.
MAC & TLC (verified owner) –
Very powerful. I used this with a harbor freight 8 gallon 2.5 HP compressor and it easily broke loose a suspension bolt torqued to 350ft lbs. I can take off all six lug nuts on my expedition without the compressor turning on. This is a great gun…the only question Why did I wait so long to get it.
Norman (verified owner) –
Great tool. Nice impact gun. Had a stuck 1/2 inch bolt stuck on a Peterbilt bumper and it snapped that bolt like a toothpick. It’s nice to have an impact gun with power and quite. Been a mechanic for over 30 years. I highly recommend this impact. Hands down beats my Snap-on impact.
MCB (verified owner) –
(last two guns were Aircat’s and both ran great till dropped and handle splits at molded seam). I’m a career mechanic over 35 years . As strong as any gun I’ve used in 2-300 dollar range . This ones a bargain , time will tell if its durable.(last two guns were Aircat’s and both ran great till dropped and handle splits at molded seam)
Ryan (verified owner) –
Five Stars. What a meaty and beautiful tool. Totally functional and worth every penny.
Walt (verified owner) –
Had it since july 2015! 4 years towing heavy trucks and still going. Bought it in July 2015 because of the good reviews and I needed it something to keep me going until I decided what “good” gun to get.
I was very surprised by the power. I’m a Heavy tow truck operator and before towing trucks we remove the driveshaft or axle. The bolts on some axles are really hard to remove. So far it has never failed to remove any.
It runs on air from the wreckers I drive without draining them.
I’ve seen my coworkers deplete the air on he same wreckers with their Aircat or Ingersol.
aab434 (verified owner) –
Great impact gun, definitely recommend. Im from tire shop and dealership background and I must say this is by far the best impact gun I’ve ever used.
You dont need to settle for snap on etc. This will get you just as far.
Definitely recommend?
-note make sure you lube all air tools every day!
Shawn (verified owner) –
Paint finish has been scratched up bad from everyday use. After two years in the trade its still working. Paint finish has been scratched up bad from everyday use. I noticed that every now and then it starts to leak air from this pin hole on the handle not sure what it is but i just disconnect and reconnect the air line and its gone. I dont oil it daily but its hasnt let me down. Its not as hard hitting as some of the other guns in the shop but its good for popping tires off.
SherriC1978 (verified owner) –
Worth the money. Awesome gun. Breaks everything apart i have used it on. The highest thing I used it for was removing wheels of a vehicle which had a torque of 425 ft lbs. It did it no problem with the compressor set at 90 psi. It is very heavy though, and that’s the only complaint I have. The outside is composite, but the main gun is cast.
Sheldon Reich (verified owner) –
Great for changing tires. The air gun worked great removing lug nuts as my previous one did not have the reverse torque to do it.

Four Stars. like it…. good feeling in your hand….good balance….

I’m a heavy field mechanic, been using pneumatic tools …. I’m a heavy field mechanic , been using pneumatic tools for over 30 years. I’ve used it on several fasteners , and no problems showing even on a 5/8 diameter bolt. I gave it 4 stars, because don’t know how long this unit will last.

Recommended product, best I’ve owned.. Best impact gun I have ever had.
And I normally buy from Snap On
Christoper Lowther Sr. (verified owner) –
Recommended from a mechanic that was sceptical of the power of CP impacts. I’ve used CP brand tools for years. Was never impressed with the power of their impacts. I encounter many difficult nuts and bolts and this impact does the job for me. It’s light, powerful, and quiet. I’ve used Ingersoll Rand for years, but but I’m pleased with this CP. I would purchase again.
MacWilly (verified owner) –
Very durable with ton of torque. I use it every day-completely impressed with the performance. This gun will remove lug nuts on trucks with only 60psi air to it. It outperforms Ingersol Rand’s lower end 3/4 impact mostly sold at box stores. I used this recently with OTC #7249 on a ’94 f150, all four ball joints, and was ready to do more when finished. Very impressed!!! Love the lowest forward setting when working on smaller bolts also.
JMC123 (verified owner) –
Typical Top Quality CP Air Tool. We needed a better riveter for our stainless work in our warehouse having only ever used the manual types. As purchasing manager for our company I instantly went for a CP product as I have been changing our air tools to this brand. They work precisely, are beautifully built and last. Slight issues with the seller remain unsolved as they are not vat registered but have supplied us an invoice showing the vat?. Anyway if you need industrial quality air tools, I suggest putting CP to the top of your list.
Evan Bissig (verified owner) –
Not as durable as it should be. Not very impressed. Power is great! As a full time employed mechanic, it does everything I want it to do. But I have had to send it in twice within 2 years to be repaired because it keeps leaking air out the roll pin in the base of the grip. Great power, durability spend to be not so great.
Avid Amazoner (verified owner) –
Great torque! I love this tool. Well made and lots of torque. I had some lug nuts that I could not budge with my electric impact wrench. I put this air tool on the nut and pulled the trigger. The nut was off in an instant. It was as if it was never tight! A great product. Consider Ingersoll Rand as an alternative.
Angus (verified owner) –
Great gun at a great price. Very powerful tool, considering the price, it is hard to find any competitive model with the same power and price.
I kind of like the design although some may not, but the plastic outer shell IS more prone to damage if you have to toss it down on concrete floor. I try to lay a cloth on the ground when I use it.
Sound level is a bit on the higher end, but the sound of it, muffled by the shell, actually doesn’t sound too bad. Loud but low.
Been using it in the shop for a couple weeks now, a few brake job here and there, haven’t had any issues.
Adam Matlock (verified owner) –
Impressed. Very impressed with this impact. We have went through many in search of the best one for our shop. I can honestly say this is just as good if not better than top of the line ingersoll rand impacts. Bought 6 of these and they’re all still working great
Christian Morin (verified owner) –
A great impact at a reasonable cost. Bought this CP7748 version E impact to replace my tired, 5 year old CP7748 version C and it works just as good as my old one did and I’m a professional mechanic so that’s 5 years of daily use.
KC (verified owner) –
Strong. The wrench is great for fitting tyres and getting nuts of cars. It’s very strong and exactly what I was looking for.
Joe F. (verified owner) –
Good Value. Loads of power and speed. A little noisy and heavier than some air wrenches
Elvin Taylor (verified owner) –
Cp7748 Durable Powerful Comfortable. I am Professional Automotive / light-duty diesel technician this gun is durable and cost effective. I use this Chicago Pneumatic impact wrench everyday and it does the job very well. I like the selector switch design I can change settings for what I need with one hand comfortably. This product feels powerful, comfortable and durable.

Good. Very good air gun for the price. Works great.
Richard (verified owner) –
Great deal for the money. It works as good as a much more expensive impact that I lost and it’s quieter
Mrs J Svensen (verified owner) –
Easy to use! Comfortable to use, easy to operate. It’s very powerful and an excellent piece of kit.
Brian T. (verified owner) –
Highly Recommend! Chicago Pneumatic CP7748 1/2″Impact.. I’ve been using the CP7748 for over a year now in my engine shop and I gotta say it hasn’t let me down. It hasn’t met a bolt it can’t loosen yet and that’s pretty impressive in my view. The last impact I had from another company had some issues with rusty bolts, but the CP7748 zips them off with ease. I’d definitely buy another one and for the price you just can’t beat it. I’ve compared this impact to a few different very expensive impacts and the Chicago Pneumatic beat them all. You definitely want to get a CP7748 if you use impacts all day. I give it 100 stars.
Update:
Its been roughly 5 years and this impact is still my favorite. I even tried other impact wrenches that were supposedly better but they still couldn’t handle what the CP7748 can handle. I haven’t had to replace any parts on it yet and its still blasting bolts off like the day I got it. This particular impact wrench has amazed me for how tough it is and how long its lasted and it shows no signs of giving up anytime soon.
Tony (verified owner) –
Excellent impact gun for the dollar…. I work in a heavy truck shop in the rebuild department, and use this impact daily for rebuilds and tear downs. It will take apart rusty, old fasteners with ease. I’ve even use the impact to take apart fasteners that I would normally use a 3/4″ impact for, and it’ll tackle them with no problem. Hands down the most rugged, reliable, and lightweight impact I’ve ever use. I’ve had IRs in the past, and this is by far the best. Oil it everyday and let it rip. I’ve been very pleased with this impact.

Yes it is the real deal. The wrench itself is pretty darn hard to find where i live, but someone told me i could find it on here, and boy where they right. I gifted it to my Granpop for his tire shop, and haven’t heard a complaint on it yet, and boy does he use it. Great product, and it sure is worth the price.

Best impact, best price .. unbelivable the real new cp7748. You cannot get a better deal on the best impact avaiable in 2020 … better then snap on the mg or any Air cat / mac tool …. its the best deal I never ever had in my life

Great value. So far after a month of use this tool seems to be a very good product. I like it’s lightweight feel, power and durability. I had another air impact and this CP impact is much nicer.
Robert Allen (verified owner) –
Light weight. It’s too new to give proper feedback. But I’ve had this brand before in my 65 years in the auto trade (now retired but still working) It is lighter to hold which is nice and I like the switch over at the rear also the low power position. Which is very handy when spinning on wheel nuts before tightening.
JungleJim73 (verified owner) –
Works as advertised, Quality product. Ordered this because I had about 50 – 3/16″ rivets to install in my boat. I installed 4 with my hand riveter in about 5 minutes and not sure I was going to get them done. When you squeeze the handle the rivet gun seats the rivet in about a nano second. Release the handle and the nail falls into the clear plastic catch container. Not sure why I waited so long to purchase one but will never put in rivets without one again. Quality product, fast shipping and a great price.
TheBoyToaster (verified owner) –
Specs Different from what’s advertised. RPM is incorrect, listed as Free speed 8200 RPM and booklet states free speed 7000 RPM. The torque of the product is for some reason listed as 922 ft.lbs, when that is the maximum reverse torque. Max working torque (forward) is also in the listing as 580 ft.lbs, booklet states 555 ft.lbs. Air flow capacity also described as 90 CFM? Completely misleading and incorrect, disappointed product is not described properly.

Awesome impact gun. Great impact. Im an apprentice and bought this when i started a year ago… i use this thing to zip of 10-20 tires a day off and on of anything from a ford fiesta to big 5500 tow trucks…. She still has yet to not crack a wheel nut loose… I’ve even used it on a harmonic balancer nut … no problems.. it is a little heavy and loud but for the price its the best option I’ve seen… you cant get a rebuilt snap on or Mac for this price. Just as long as u give it a little transmission fluid or air tool oil everyday and this gun wont steer you wrong.

7 years of ownership= very happy camper. I own and use this air impact since 2015. It has been my savior whenever my other impact, Ingersoll Rand 2100G was struggling to get the job done. It’s feels a little bigger in hand and is heavier too. It’s really my favorite one for all rusted big bolts and nuts; axle, struts, shocks, control arms and so on. It’s powered by a 60 gallons air compressor regulated at 95 psi. It is feed with an 1/2 ” air hose. I feel it’s important to let others know how it’s getting its air. This way, others might understand why they struggle to get the job done with a smaller 1/4 hose or a pancake compressor. The tool is protected by a boot that was purchased separately. I oil it with Lucas air tool every time i use it. Really a great air impact in this price range!

Works great. I use it to attach aluminum panels on pontoon boats.

Great impact for the money. Had it about 8 months now and have used it almost every day of the 8 months (automotive garage) makes decent power. Most other techs in the shop like it so much they have also bought this model to replace their considerably more expensive ones. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be getting another when mine is worn out.

Very Powerful Impact. Very powerful impact. I am very impressed. I highly recommend it. Also well designed, as it fits and operates in the tights and difficult spots to reach

Makes you jump the first time you use it. Works well, makes a popping noise when you use it, way easier than installing rivets manually, especially 3/16 stainless.
