What is a scabbler?

What is a scabbler?

Scabblers are percussive pneumatic tools (driven by a portable air compressor) using carbide tipped cutting heads that impact the concrete. They operate by pounding a number of tipped cutters down onto the concrete surface in rapid succession. It takes several passes with the machine to achieve the desired depth. They tend to roughen the concrete surface more than grinding or scarifying.

Scabblers are available in a range of sizes from small handheld tools to multi-head floor machines.

Scabblers leave a rough heavy profile.

You would use scabblers to:

  • Prepare surfaces for application of fresh concrete, grout, mortars and renders without damaging the substrate
  • Reduce concrete levels over 6mm
  • Remove very thick coatings
  • Remove laitance
  • Expose aggregate
  • Rectify over poured slabs
  • Create a heavy profile where material requires a heavy mechanical key

What does a scabbler do?

A scabbler is one of the best tools to efficiently resurface concrete to prepare it for sealants and overlays, adding a rough texture or removing surface imperfections. Many people choose to roughen the surface of concrete slabs, sidewalks and roadways to improve skid resistance, especially in wet conditions.

HAND SCABBLERS

Trelawny’s range of Construction Scabblers is the ideal option for roughing and reducing concrete. Available in single or triple versions, scabblers use compressed air to hammer the pistons onto concrete surfaces.

The Trelawny handheld scabblers are the ideal tools for roughing and preparing concrete in small areas such as concrete joints.

With a simple and robust design, the Trelawny Construction Scabblers ensure low and easy maintenance while the though carbide tipped pistons allow fast production and long service life.
